First activity of the season in Scotland: planting seagrass seeds 🌱

Loch Craignish, United Kingdom
3/26/2025

As we start to feel spring arrive, we’ve been busy in the water planting seagrass seeds and marking out the areas for transplanting this season’s seagrass shoots. We have planted 100,000 seeds and aim to transplant 3000 square metres of shoots in the coming months, including a small trial area in a neighbouring loch, Loch Beag. This is the first time we trial planting outside Loch Craignish in an area where eDNA testing from sediment core samples has shown seagrass was once present, but is no longer.
